Start with the vehicles and the available space
List the vehicles that will use the driveway, where doors open and how people reach the house. Include trailers or heavier vehicles in the conversation. Approximate dimensions help describe the idea, but the installer must assess the property and determine the design. A larger surface can affect drainage, landscaping and the street connection; these belong in the scope conversation before a price comparison.
Compare the preparation beneath the surface
Ask the proposal to explain excavation, removal if applicable, base preparation and handling of unsuitable material. Confirm who assesses the existing ground and how changes are authorized. Surface area alone does not describe the whole job. Two quotes with the same dimensions may include different preparation, reinforcement, finishes or access arrangements.
Resolve the connection to the street
Identify whether the work touches the driveway approach, curb, sidewalk or other public space. Ask the responsible authority about the proposed address and scope, and name the person obtaining any required approvals. Do not assume that work inside a property line and work at the street follow the same process. Temple publishes flatwork permit records; use the city resource to discuss your own project.
Plan access while work is underway
Ask where vehicles should park, how deliveries reach the site and how the household enters safely during construction. Agree on protection for gates, irrigation and adjoining surfaces. Obtain the installer’s instructions for returning foot traffic and vehicles rather than relying on a generic number of days. Weather and the actual materials can change the plan.
Get the finish and closeout in writing
The agreement should state the finish, edge treatment, joint plan responsibility, cleanup and any written warranty terms. Ask what normal variation may look like and how concerns are documented. Keep the final scope, approved changes and care instructions together. This website provides preparation guidance; the independent provider assesses the site and sets its own charges and availability.
Put the guidance to work
Use the project planner to organize dimensions and questions. Keep the actual address ready for the provider; do not enter personal information here.
